A man accused of theft was caught red-handed after he allegedly broke into two houses in Kanpur’s Nazirabad area and fell asleep inside one of them. The unusual incident took place near the Maryampur railway line late Saturday night, police said.
According to officials, the accused, reportedly under the influence of alcohol, first entered a house and stole some valuables. He then moved into the adjacent house, both owned by two brothers, where he again picked up valuables but lay down on a bed and fell asleep before he could leave.
The incident came to light the next morning when one of the family members woke up and found an unknown man sleeping inside a room. Upon checking further, they discovered that the cupboards had been broken into and valuables were missing. The man was searched, and the stolen jewellery and cash were found in his possession. Locals later caught and handed him over to the police. A case has been registered, and further investigation is underway.
