A 36-year-old man named Karan Dev was murdered by his wife and her lover, who is also Karan's cousin, in Delhi. The case was first seen as an accidental death but later turned into a murder investigation.

The incident took place on July 13. Karan was taken to Mata Rooprani Maggo Hospital by his wife, Sushmita. She told the hospital that he had suffered an electric shock by accident. Doctors at the hospital declared him dead. His family believed her and did not ask for a post-mortem. But the Delhi Police found the situation suspicious because of Karan's young age and asked for a post-mortem anyway.

Karan’s wife, Sushmita, and cousin Rahul both objected to the post-mortem. However, the police sent his body to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital for autopsy.

Three days later, Karan’s younger brother Kunal went to the police and said he believed Karan was murdered. He showed the police an Instagram chat between Sushmita and Rahul. The chats revealed a shocking plan. The two were having an affair and had planned to kill Karan.

According to the chats, they gave Karan 15 sleeping pills during dinner and waited until he was unconscious. They also searched online to know how long it would take for the pills to work. While Karan was still breathing but unconscious, Sushmita told Rahul she wanted to take a nap. Then they gave Karan an electric shock to make it look like an accident.

The police arrested Sushmita. During questioning, she admitted to the murder and said Rahul helped her. She also said, “My husband had slapped and abused me a day before Karwachauth and would often ask me for money, leading to emotional and physical distress.”

DCP Dwarka Ankit Singh said, “Based on the initial investigation, a case has been registered under appropriate sections. The process of arrest is going on. We are also waiting for a detailed post-mortem report.”
