Students of Osmania University protested on Tuesday night after a razor blade was allegedly found in a curry served at the New Godavari hostel mess, Telangana Today reported. Holding the curry vessel and plate, students blocked the university’s main road and chanted slogans against the administration.

The students demanded that Vice Chancellor Prof. M Kumar take action, as similar incidents have occurred before. Protesters said that finding a razor blade was not a one-off event, noting that just two days ago, worms were found in the cabbage curry at the mess.

“Earlier, a student discovered glass pieces in the food. Every time we report this, the mess staff assures us it won’t happen again, yet the problem continues,” said Chelimela Druhan, an MA Philosophy student and Osmania University ABVP president.

He also claimed that the mess staff were not following their scheduled shifts, leaving students to serve themselves, especially during dinner. He said that despite paying ₹2,500 to ₹3,000 per month for hostel food, the meals are of very poor quality. He added that even though the students have complained many times to the university administration, nothing has been done to fix the issue, and the problem continues.

Students also raised concerns about ongoing water problems in the hostel, saying the lack of a regular water supply is affecting their health. They explained that water tankers are used instead, but they are unsure where the water is coming from, and many students are falling ill. The students urged the administration to install a borewell rather than relying on tankers.

Earlier in February, several students at NMIMS in Telangana also reported getting sick after eating food from the college canteen. The administration said that the students got food poisoning from eating food from outside the campus, noting that only 27 students had fallen ill.
