The shooting happened near Praveen's home when unknown attackers opened fire. His father, Raghavulu, said Praveen had called him on WhatsApp on Wednesday morning, but he missed the call. When he tried calling back, a stranger answered and said he had found Praveen's phone, which worried the family.

Some friends said that Praveen's body was found with multiple bullet wounds, his cousin Arun told news agency PTI. While some reports says that he was shot dead by unknown attackers at a store, his family is still unsure about the exact cause of his death.

The Consulate General of India in Chicago expressed deep condolences over Praveen's tragic death. They stated that they are in close contact with his family and the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, offering them all possible assistance during this difficult time. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), they wrote, "Our heartfelt condolences and prayers are with his family and friends of the departed."

Praveen Kumar Gampa moved to the US in 2023 to pursue a master's degree in data science at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. To support himself, he was working part-time at a local store when the tragic incident took place.

Authorities are currently investigating the exact circumstances of his death, and further details are awaited. His family and friends are anxiously seeking more information as they struggle to come to terms with the devastating loss.
