The gram panchayat in Ballo village, Bathinda district, Punjab, has decided to give ₹21,000 as a reward to families who don’t serve alcohol or play DJ music at weddings. This decision was made to help families avoid extra spending and to reduce alcohol misuse, said the village head, Amarjit Kaur, on Tuesday.
The sarpanch explained that alcohol and loud music at weddings often lead to quarrels. "Moreover, the loud music also disturbs the studies of students," Kaur added. By passing this resolution, the panchayat hopes to encourage simpler and more peaceful wedding celebrations in the village, which has a population of about 5,000.
Kaur highlighted the broader goals of the village panchayat. They have requested the government to build a stadium in the village. "There should be a stadium in the village so that different games can be organised," she said, emphasising the importance of encouraging youth to participate in sports.
The panchayat in Ballo village is working on eco-friendly projects to improve the community. They plan to set up a biogas plant in the village. They also want to support farmers by giving free seeds to those who practice organic farming.
These efforts aim to create a more peaceful, healthier, and productive environment for everyone in the village while reducing unnecessary expenses.
