The first picture of Dr. Umar Mohammad, who is suspected to be the suicide bomber in the Delhi blast case, has come out. Umar owned the white Hyundai i20 car that exploded near the Red Fort on Monday evening, killing at least nine people and injuring around 20 others. NDTV has obtained the first image of the man believed to have carried out the attack.
Umar Mohammad was born on 24 February 1989 in Pulwama, Jammu and Kashmir. He worked as a doctor at Al Falah Medical College. According to police sources, he was a close aide of Dr. Adeel Ahmad Rather and Dr. Mujammil Shakil, two doctors who were arrested recently for being part of a “white-collar terror module” busted by the police in Jammu and Kashmir and Haryana.

After learning that his two associates had been caught and that police had seized 2,900 kg of suspected explosives, Umar reportedly panicked and triggered the blast in Delhi. Investigators believe he used Ammonium Nitrate Fuel Oil (ANFO) to carry out the attack. The explosive was planted inside the car along with a detonator before the blast was triggered near the crowded Red Fort area.
How the blast happened
CCTV footage shows the white i20 entering Delhi from the Badarpur border and reaching Old Delhi via the Outer Ring Road. The car, registered with the number HR 26CE7674, entered a parking area near Red Fort at 3:19 pm and stayed there for more than three hours before the explosion at around 6:30 pm. Reports say Umar stayed inside the car the entire time and never stepped out.
Investigations also reveal that the car had changed hands several times before the blast. It was sold by Salman to Devender in March 2025, then from Devender to Aamir (Umar’s brother) on October 29, and later to Tariq and Umar. Both Aamir and Tariq are now being questioned by Delhi Police.
The police have also arrested several other doctors connected to this terror module. These include Dr. Adeel Ahmad Rather, arrested in Saharanpur for supporting the Jaish-e-Mohammed group, and Dr. Mujammil Shakeel, from whom explosives and arms were recovered in Faridabad. Another woman doctor, Dr. Shaheen Shahid, was also caught with weapons in her car.
In Gujarat, Dr. Ahmed Mohiyuddin Saiyed was arrested by the ATS for planning a ricin-based terror attack and for conducting a recce of the RSS office in Lucknow. Police say the investigation is still on and more arrests are likely in connection with the Delhi blast and the wider terror network.
