Prime Minister Narendra Modi will today launch the year-long celebration marking 150 years of India’s national song, “Vande Mataram,” in New Delhi. As part of the event, he will also release a special commemorative stamp and coin.
In a post on social media earlier, the Prime Minister said that this celebration is a proud moment for all Indians. He described Vande Mataram as “a stirring call that has inspired generations and kindled an enduring spirit of patriotism across the country.”
The anniversary celebrations will include the full version of Vande Mataram being sung in public places across India. People from all walks of life are expected to take part, showing unity and shared pride.
Vande Mataram was written by Bankimchandra Chatterji on Akshaya Navami, on November 7 in 1875. It later appeared in the literary magazine Bangadarshan, as part of his famous novel Anandamath.
The song honours the Motherland as a symbol of strength, prosperity, and divine power. Over time, it became a powerful sign of national pride and unity, especially during India’s freedom movement.
