A 45-year-old man and his four children died by suicide after jumping in front of a train in Faridabad on Tuesday, police said. All five died on the spot. According to police, the man, Manoj Mahato, was originally from Bihar and fought with his wife, Priya, earlier that morning. After the argument, he left the house with their four children, saying he was taking them to a park.

Before the incident, he gave the children cold drinks and chips. When the train came, the children tried to run away, but he held them tightly, police said. The incident happened around 12:55 p.m. as the Golden Temple Express was approaching Ballabgarh station.

About a kilometre before the station, the man was seen walking along the railway track, carrying two of his children on his shoulders and holding the hands of the other two, police said. The train driver kept sounding the horn from a distance, but the man did not move. As the train got closer, he jumped in front of it along with his children, Pawan (10), Karu (9), Murli (5), and Chotu (3).

After receiving information about the incident, a police team arrived at the spot and removed the bodies from the tracks. A note was found in Manoj Mahato's pocket, which had his wife's phone number written on it. Inspector Rajpal, SHO of the Government Railway Police, said Mahato may have taken this step because he suspected his wife of being unfaithful. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem.
