A man from Odisha is accused of defrauding a luxury hotel in Varanasi of Rs 2 lakh after staying and dining there for four days without settling the bill, police reported on Tuesday. The hotel management has filed a complaint with the police, stating that the individual is absconding and has urged authorities to apprehend him and ensure that the outstanding dues are paid promptly.
The complaint filed by Rikhi Mukherjee, the manager of Hotel Taj Ganges, states that the accused, Sarthak Sanjay, stayed in a luxury room from October 14 to 18 and also dined at the restaurant. However, he left without paying the bills and became unreachable afterwards.
The complainant claimed that the total charges for a four-day stay in Room No. 127 were Rs 1,67,796, and the food bills amounted to Rs 36,750. The total amount Sanjay was supposed to pay was Rs 2,04,52.
Mukherjee also claimed that when the hotel staff couldn't locate him, they called his phone, but it was switched off. They then searched his room and only found a few clothes.
The hotel manager reported the incident to the police, providing the accused's address and phone numbers.
An FIR has been filed, and an investigation is ongoing. A man hunt has been launched to find the accused, Sarthak Sanjay, according to a senior police officer in Varanasi.
