Houston’s culinary scene just reached a new milestone as Musaafer, an Indian fine-dining restaurant in The Galleria, received a Michelin star at the debut Texas Michelin awards ceremony.

This achievement not only boasts of the artistic contributions that Musaafer brings to Houston's dynamic food culture but also brings an international spotlight on the unique flavors of the Indian cuisine in the city.

Musaafer, which means "traveler" in Urdu, is aptly named, as its menu is a culinary map of India, designed to bring the tastes of each region to diners in Houston.

The concept was born out of the journey around India that the founding team of Musaafer itself undertook - Shammi and Mithu Malik - on a 100-day trip. Their vision weaves ancient cooking methods with modern techniques to bring forth an immersive experience that introduces guests to India's diverse flavors.

Founders Shammi and Mithu Malik appreciate the recognition bestowed upon them with thanks. "This recognition is a testament to the dedication and hard work of our entire team," shared Shammi Malik, while Mithu added, "We're incredibly thankful for the support from our local Houston community. The enthusiasm and adventurous spirit of our guests have been crucial to our success."

According to Executive Corporate Chef Mayank Istwal, originally from Dehradun, India, "We're honored to be part of this vibrant city's culinary landscape and look forward to seeing it continue to grow,"  For the occasion, he added a traditional 'Pahadi' cap under his chef coat. His family background in the catering business sparked his culinary journey and eventually led him to Musaafer, where he now brings authentic Indian flavors to Houston.

With its new Michelin star, Musaafer has set a high standard in Houston’s fine dining scene, embodying both culinary excellence and cultural exploration. This prestigious accolade is a significant milestone for Musaafer and reinforces Houston’s growing reputation as a hub for diverse and world-class cuisine.
