Police in Maharashtra's Thane district have registered a case against a woman who is accused of using casteist remarks and beating three local children over a dispute about her pet dog. A group of women in the Shahapur area complained on Friday that their dog was causing trouble in their neighbourhood. Instead of listening to their concerns, the woman allegedly shouted abusive and casteist language at them.

She then blamed the children for making noise that she said disturbed her dog and reportedly attacked the three children, who are aged 3, 7, and 8. After the complaint, the police registered a case against her under several laws, including the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, and the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act.

"We have registered a case and are carrying out a detailed investigation into the incident. No arrests have been made so far, but we are following up on all leads closely," the official said.

Another incident took place in Thane a few days ago when a resident allegedly bit off part of his friend's ear and even swallowed it following an argument at a party, an official said on Thursday. The event took place in a posh housing society in the Patlipada area, according to an official from Kasarvadavali police station. In his complaint, Shravan Leekha (37) stated that he and the accused, Vikas Menon (32), were at a party with friends when they got into an altercation. Suddenly, Menon became violent, bit off part of Leekha's ear, and swallowed it. Leekha was then rushed to a hospital for treatment.
