An 18-year-old student shocked Madhya Pradesh on Monday when he set a 26-year-old guest teacher on fire in Narsinghpur district. The accused, identified as Suryansh Kochar, was a former student of Excellence School (Utkrisht Vidyalaya) in the Kotwali police station area. According to police, he attacked the teacher due to a personal grudge.
The incident took place around 3:30 PM when Suryansh went to the teacher’s home carrying a bottle of petrol. Without any warning, he poured the fuel on her and set her ablaze before running away. Locals and family members rushed the injured teacher to the district hospital, where doctors confirmed that she suffered 10–15 per cent burns. Fortunately, her injuries are not life-threatening, and she is currently being treated.
Police investigations says that the attack was the result of a one-sided obsession and revenge. Officials revealed that the teacher had earlier complained about Suryansh after he made inappropriate remarks about her saree during the Independence Day function at the school. The complaint angered him, and he reportedly plotted the attack to take revenge. SDOP Manoj Gupta stated, “This is a case of one-sided affection and personal vendetta.
The teacher had lodged a complaint against the accused, which seems to have triggered the incident.” The accused had been expelled from the teacher’s school two years ago and was studying elsewhere. However, he continued to harbour feelings for her and became hostile after she reported his behaviour. The Kotwali police acted quickly and arrested Suryansh from Kalyanpur village under the Dongargaon police station limits within hours of the attack.
He has been booked under Section 124A and other relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The police are now recording the victim’s full statement to proceed further with the case. Officials confirmed that a detailed investigation is underway to ensure strict legal action against the accused. This shocking incident has left the local community disturbed, raising concerns about student–teacher safety and highlighting the dangers of unchecked obsession and harassment.
