A 29-year-old student of the Indian Institute of Management Bengaluru (IIM-B) died after falling from the second floor of his hostel, according to police reports on Monday. The unfortunate incident took place on January 4, only hours after the student had celebrated his birthday with friends. The cause of the fall is currently under investigation.
Nilay Kailashbhai Patel, a resident of Surat in Gujarat, returned to his hostel room after celebrating his birthday and cutting a cake with friends past midnight, according to police. He was later discovered lying in the hostel's courtyard lawn at around 6:30 am on Sunday.
The investigation is ongoing, and a police officer stated that they are awaiting the post-mortem report to determine the cause of death."We are waiting for the post-mortem report, which is expected in the next three days, to establish the cause of death," the officer informed news agency PTI.
According to the police, Patel was noticed by security personnel and was spotted by security personnel and immediately rushed to the hospital, where he was declared dead. A case of unnatural death has been filed, and an investigation is underway.
IIM-B has expressed deep sorrow over Patel’s death, describing him as a "bright student" who was well-loved by many.
"It is with profound sadness that IIM-Bangalore shares the news of the untimely passing of our PGP 2023-25 student, Nilay Kailashbhai Patel. A bright student, and a much-loved friend to many, Nilay will be sorely missed by the entire IIMB family," read the official statement.The family of the deceased has requested consideration, respect, and privacy during this difficult time.
