Traveling to Himachal Pradesh will soon cost more as toll charges are set to increase. From April 1, 2025, the state will raise toll fees for both private and commercial vehicles to fund road maintenance and improve infrastructure.

The toll hike will apply at 55 toll points, including popular routes to Shimla, Manali, Dharamshala, and other tourist destinations, making travel more expensive. The new charges will affect all types of vehicles, from private cars and taxis to buses and heavy trucks. Authorities say the increased toll will help maintain better roads, ensuring smoother and safer travel for everyone.

The new toll charges in Himachal Pradesh, effective from April 1, 2025, will impact both private and commercial vehicles. Private vehicle owners will now pay Rs 70 for a 24-hour pass, up from Rs 60. Passenger vehicles with 6 to 12 seats will be charged Rs 110, while those with more than 12 seats will have to pay Rs 180.

For heavy cargo vehicles, the toll has increased to Rs 570 from the earlier Rs 550. Cargo vehicles over 250 quintals will be charged Rs 720, while those carrying between 120 to 250 quintals will continue to pay Rs 570. Vehicles transporting 90 to 120 quintals will now pay Rs 320 instead of Rs 300, and those carrying 20 to 90 quintals will be charged Rs 170, up from Rs 150. Cargo vehicles below 20 quintals will see a toll increase from Rs 110 to Rs 130.

Apart from this , private and public tractors will now have to pay Rs 70, a rise from the earlier Rs 50. The increased toll rates aim to support road maintenance and infrastructure improvements across the state.

Where will these taxes be applied?

The higher toll charges will be applied at major entry and transit points across Himachal Pradesh. The highest number of toll barriers are in Una (15 barriers), Solan (13), and Sirmaur (8).

One of the busiest toll points, Parwanoo on the Kalka-Shimla National Highway (NH-5), is a key entry route for tourists travelling to Shimla. Other major highways leading to popular hill stations like Manali, Dharamshala, and Dalhousie will also be affected by the increased toll fees.

The funds will be used to enhance road quality, strengthen connectivity, and improve travel safety across the region.
