Heavy rain hit Delhi and several parts of the National Capital Region (NCR) on Friday morning, leading to waterlogging, traffic jams, and flight delays. By 11:30 am, at least 146 departures and 30 arrivals at Delhi Airport were delayed, according to flight tracking data.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a yellow alert for Delhi, warning of light to moderate rain with thunderstorms and lightning. At the same time, Noida and Ghaziabad were placed under a red alert, with predictions of extremely heavy rainfall. Heavy showers also hit key areas of Delhi like Pragati Maidan, Defence Colony, and Preet Vihar, worsening waterlogging and traffic congestion.
Waterlogging and traffic jams
Delhi Traffic Police reported heavy traffic on many major routes, including the DND Flyway, Mathura Road, Vikas Marg, ISBT, Geeta Colony, and Rajaram Kohli Marg. Long queues of vehicles stretched from Badarpur to Ashram, delaying commuters and school buses. Traffic police teams were deployed at several spots to manage the flow.
Flight delays
According to Flightradar24.com, the average departure delay at Delhi airport was about 28 minutes. IndiGo also issued a travel advisory, asking passengers to plan and check flight updates as road traffic in the city was heavily affected by the rains.
Metro services disrupted
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) said services were delayed on the Yellow Line between Vishwavidyalaya and Central Secretariatduring peak morning hours. Other metro lines were running normally.
Weather warnings in other states
