The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has announced a hike in fares for Metro services in the national capital, making travel on the city’s main transport system more expensive. The new fares came into effect on Monday, August 25, 2025.

According to the DMRC, the increase will be between ₹1 and ₹4 depending on the distance travelled. For the Airport Express line, fares have gone up by ₹5. In its official statement on X, DMRC said, “The passenger fares of the Delhi Metro services have been revised with effect from today, that is, 25th August 2025 (Monday) onwards. The increase is minimal, ranging from ₹ 1 to ₹ 4 only, depending on the distance of travel (up to ₹ 5 for the Airport Express Line).”

What are the new fares?

The minimum fare is now ₹11, while the maximum fare has been set at ₹64. Earlier, the minimum was ₹10 and the maximum was ₹60.

For shorter distances, the increase is small. Passengers travelling 0–2 kilometres will now pay ₹11 instead of ₹10, and those travelling 2–5 kilometres will pay ₹21 instead of ₹20.

For middle-range journeys, fares have also gone up slightly. Travel between 5 and 12 kilometres will now cost ₹32 instead of ₹30. For up to 21 kilometres, passengers will pay ₹43, an increase from the earlier ₹40.

For longer distances, the hike is higher. Journeys up to 32 kilometres will now cost ₹54, while travel beyond 32 kilometres will cost the maximum fare of ₹64, which is ₹4 more than before.

Discounts for smart card users

DMRC has said that despite the fare hike, commuters using smart cards will continue to get a 10 per cent discount on every trip. An additional 10 per cent discount will be available during off-peak hours, which include before 8 AM, between 12 PM and 5 PM, and after 9 PM.

This is the first fare revision since 2017, when the fourth Fare Fixation Committee (FFC) recommended changes. That means Delhi Metro fares had remained the same for eight years before this increase.
