Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Bihar and West Bengal on Friday to launch and inaugurate development projects worth about ₹18,000 crore. Of this, around ₹13,000 crore worth of projects are for Bihar.
Bihar Visit
PM Modi will spend nearly four hours in Bihar, visiting Gaya, Patna, and Begusarai. His visit coincides with that of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, who is also in the state for his ‘Voter Adhikar Yatra’ ahead of the assembly elections.
In Gaya, the Prime Minister will inaugurate several important projects, including a 660 MW thermal power plant in Buxar, built at a cost of ₹6,880 crore. He will also flag off two train services, the Amrit Bharat Express between Gaya and Delhi, and the Buddhist Circuit Train connecting Vaishali in Bihar to Koderma in Jharkhand.
He will attend a symbolic house-entry ceremony for 12,000 families under the PM Awas Yojana (Gramin). Other projects include: PM Modi will also inaugurate the Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital and Research Centre in Muzaffarpur, a ₹520 crore sewerage treatment plant in Munger under the Namami Gange programme, and urban infrastructure projects worth ₹1,260 crore. Additionally, he will open the four-lane Bakhtiyarpur–Mokama section of National Highway 31, constructed at a cost of ₹1,900 crore, along with the Bikramganj–Dumraon section of National Highway 120.
Later, he will inaugurate the 8.15 km Aunta-Simaria bridge over the Ganga near Mokama. This bridge, built alongside the old Rajendra Setu, is expected to save heavy vehicles up to 100 km of travel. The Prime Minister will also address a public meeting in Bihar. This will be his 54th visit to the state, and his seventh this year, which BJP leaders say shows the government’s focus on Bihar.
Kolkata Visit
In the afternoon, PM Modi will travel to Kolkata, where he will launch metro and road projects worth about ₹5,200 crore. He will flag off services on three new metro lines, Green, Yellow, and Orange.
The Yellow Line will provide a direct 30-minute connection to the airport, while the Green Line extension from Sealdah to Esplanade will reduce the road travel time from 50 minutes to just 11 minutes. The Orange Line is expected to enhance connectivity between the eastern and southern parts of the city. These new metro routes will add 366 daily train services and increase capacity to carry over 9 lakh passengers per day.
