Job aspirants in Bihar will now have to pay just ₹100 to appear for preliminary examinations, regardless of the recruitment board or department conducting them. In a move aimed at easing the financial burden on candidates, the state cabinet, led by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, approved this proposal in its meeting on Monday. Importantly, those who qualify for the main examination will not have to pay any additional fee.
The decision was first shared by the Chief Minister through a social media post on Independence Day and was formally cleared by the cabinet on August 19.The General Administration Department (GAD) had placed the proposal before the cabinet, which received unanimous approval.
According to officials, the new policy will be applicable across all state recruitment commissions, including the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC), Staff Selection Commission (BSSC), Technical Service Commission (BTSC), Police Subordinate Service Commission (BPSSC) and the Central Constable Selection Board.
Until now, candidates have been paying different fees depending on the recruitment body and the post applied for. With the new rule, the fee structure will be simplified and significantly reduced. Thisis expected to benefit thousands of aspirants, especially students from rural and economically weaker backgrounds, who often apply for multiple exams.
The announcement has come just months before the state assembly elections. Political observers believe the move will not only provide relief to aspirants but also help the government strengthen its connection with the youth.
Candidates and education activists have welcomed the step, calling it a progressive decision that will encourage more participation in competitive exams. By removing financial hurdles, the government hopes to create fairer opportunities for all sections of society.
