Congress MP Rahul Gandhi has intensified his attack on the Election Commission of India (ECI), accusing it of facilitating “vote theft” in Bihar through the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. Addressing a gathering in Gaya on Monday during the Voter Adhikar Yatra alongside RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav, Rahul Gandhi alleged that the poll body was working in favour of the BJP and warned of strict action if the INDIA bloc forms the government.
The Raebareli MP claimed that the Election Commission had been “caught stealing votes” yet was demanding an affidavit from him. “Vote chori is an attack on the soul of Bharat Mata. The whole country will ask the Election Commission to give an affidavit. We will expose this theft in every assembly and Lok Sabha seat,” Gandhi said.
Taking a direct swipe at Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and election commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi, Rahul Gandhi alleged they were acting like BJP workers. “Right now, it is Modi ji’s government. But understand one thing, when the INDIA bloc forms the government in Bihar and Delhi, we will take action against you. You have stolen votes from the entire country,” he declared.
He further alleged that the Election Commission had launched a “special package” for Bihar under the name of SIR, which, according to him, was simply a new form of vote theft. Gandhi also emphasised that the people of Bihar would not allow such manipulation, stating, “The people of this state will say in one voice that vote chori cannot be done here.”
These sharp remarks came just a day after CEC Gyanesh Kumar issued a seven-day ultimatum to Gandhi, asking him to provide a signed affidavit to support his allegations. The poll body warned that if he failed to do so, his claims would be treated as baseless and invalid. The Election Commission has consistently denied allegations from Gandhi and other Opposition leaders, dismissing them as misleading.
