Haryana Police have arrested a YouTuber from Palwal district for allegedly spying for Pakistan’s ISI and passing on sensitive information. The arrest comes shortly after a similar case in the district, pointing to the presence of a larger espionage network.
The accused has been identified as Wasim Akram, a resident of Kot village in Palwal’s Hathin area.Akram ran a YouTube channel about the history and culture of Mewat and often helped his father run a local hospital. He was arrested by the Palwal CIA under the supervision of PSI Deepak Gulia, following leads from another accused, Taufiq of Alimev village, who was arrested on September 26 in connection with the same case.
Links with Pakistan
Police investigations suggest that Akram first came in contact with Pakistani officials in 2021 while applying for a visa to visit the country. He reportedly communicated with his handlers through WhatsApp and other internet calling apps for nearly four years. Officials said Akram not only shared sensitive information but also provided a SIM card to his contacts during a visit to Delhi.
Digital evidence
During a search of Akram’s phone, police discovered several incriminating WhatsApp chats, some of which had been deleted. Cyber forensic experts are now trying to recover the deleted messages to trace what information was shared and with whom.
What family said
Akram’s family has denied all allegations, saying he never visited Pakistan and only helped his father at the hospital while running his YouTube channel on local history. However, police say digital evidence and interrogations suggest strong links with ISI contacts.
The arrest follows the detention of Taufiq, who allegedly sent sensitive intelligence to Pakistan since 2022. During questioning, Taufiq revealed Akram’s involvement, leading to the new arrest. Both men now face sedition charges and offences under national security laws and are in police custody for further investigation.
SP Varun Singla has directed the Palwal Crime Branch and related units to continue probing the matter. The Intelligence Bureau (IB) is assisting the local police. Officials have also indicated that more arrests could happen as the investigation progresse
