Goa Health Minister Vishwajit Rane has said sorry for shouting at a senior doctor in public. He admitted that his "intent was right but words were wrong."His apology came after a video went viral showing him scolding Dr. Rudresh Kuttikar, the Chief Medical Officer of Goa Medical College and Hospital. The video sparked strong criticism from doctors and opposition leaders.
Talking to India Today TV, Rane said, “I want to apologise to the Indian Medical Association and Dr. Kuttikar. I spoke out for the patients because I understood their pain. My mother is a cancer patient, so I know how it feels. I had no intention of making this political.”
The controversy started when Health Minister Vishwajit Rane made a surprise visit to Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) on June 7. During the visit, he publicly accused Dr. Rudresh Kuttikar of misbehaving with patients and immediately ordered his suspension.
This move angered the Goa branch of the Indian Medical Association (IMA). They called the minister’s behaviour insulting and demanded that the suspension be cancelled. The IMA also said that a proper and fair investigation should be done instead of taking action without hearing both sides. With growing criticism, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant stepped in. He cancelled the suspension and promised that proper procedures would be followed to handle the matter fairly.
