The Gujarat government has taken strict action against four private hospitals for serious violations under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY) and Maa health schemes. Two hospitals have been suspended, while two others have been given show-cause notices after surprise inspections revealed major irregularities.
These inspections were part of a statewide drive to check hospitals that are registered under government health schemes. Officials found that several hospitals were not following proper standards for patient care, safety, and transparency.
At Deep Children’s Hospital and Neonatal Care in Godhra, inspectors discovered expired medicines in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), no qualified MBBS doctor on duty, and poor infection control measures. The hospital also failed to maintain proper standards in its pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) and did not have the required information kiosk to inform patients about the PMJAY scheme. Because of these serious lapses, the hospital was suspended from the government scheme.
Another hospital, Kashima Hospital in Bharuch, faced suspension for similar issues. Officials found that it lacked proper infrastructure, did not follow infection control rules, had unqualified nursing staff, and no doctor was available until noon. The hospital also operated without valid building use permission or a fire safety certificate.
Two other hospitals, Mother Children and General Hospital in Kalol and Maternal Child and Newborn Care Hospital in Devgarh Baria, were issued show-cause notices. Inspectors found expired medicines in storage, missing information kiosks, and even refusal to share CCTV footage with inspection teams.
Health Minister Prafulla Pansheriya said the government will not tolerate negligence or corruption in hospitals that serve poor and needy citizens. He said the action shows the government’s commitment to transparency and humanity in healthcare. He added that surprise checks will continue across the state to make sure all hospitals under PMJAY and Maa schemes follow the rules and maintain proper medical standards.
