A cybercrime case has revealed how sensitive footage of women undergoing routine medical checkups at a Rajkot hospital was stolen and misused online, after hackers managed to break into the facility’s CCTV system due to a weak default password.

The incident took place at Payal Maternity Hospital in Rajkot, Gujarat. According to reports, hackers gained access to the hospital’s CCTV setup because it was still using a basic, factory-set password, reportedly “admin123”.

The stolen footage included private visuals of women, including pregnant patients, during their gynaecological examinations. The videos, which are believed to span from January 2024 to December 2024, were later found being shared online.

The case came to light when short teaser clips started appearing on YouTube channels such as “Megha Mbbs” and “cp monda”.

Viewers who clicked on these videos were then directed to Telegram groups, where the full clips were being sold for ₹700 to ₹4,000, as per The Times of India report.

Investigators later found that:

  • Around 50,000 clips were stolen in total.

  • The hackers had accessed CCTV systems of multiple hospitals, not just in Rajkot.

  • Compromised locations included Pune, Mumbai, Nashik, Surat, Ahmedabad, and Delhi.

It was also discovered that CCTV systems from schools, private houses, cinema halls, factories, and offices had been accessed the same way, through unchanged default passwords.

The suspects involved in the hacking operation were arrested in February 2025.
However, investigators say that many of the stolen videos continued circulating online until June 2025.

Officials noted that numerous CCTV systems across the country are still running with basic default login credentials,  making them easy targets for cybercriminals.
