Amid the heavy military presence during Operation Sindoor in Punjab’s Tara Wali village near the India-Pakistan border, 10-year-old Shravan Singh stepped up in a way few expected. While troops lined the fields in a major mobilisation exercise, Shravan supported the jawans by serving them water, milk, lassi, and even ice in the harsh summer heat. Shravan, the son of local farmer Sona Singh, made it his daily routine to visit the soldiers camped on his family’s farmland. Despite his young age, he showed a strong sense of responsibility and respect for the army. Without wearing a uniform or holding a weapon, his actions reflected the same dedication seen in the soldiers he served. He became a source of encouragement and comfort to the jawans during tense days.
As the military prepared and trained on the ground, Shravan’s quiet acts of kindness stood out. His support didn’t come from orders or expectations, it came from a place of pure devotion.Shravan dreams of one day becoming a soldier himself. Until then, he says he will continue to serve in whatever way he can. His story has become a shining example of how even the smallest citizens can make a meaningful impact on the forces guarding the nation.
Every day, Shravan brought them water, milk, lassi, and ice, offering comfort and support amid the heat and tension.“I wasn’t scared. I want to be a soldier when I grow up. They loved me a lot,” Shravan said proudly.
Moved by his selfless gesture, the Indian Army honoured him. Major General Ranjit Singh Manral, General Officer Commanding the 7th Infantry Division, felicitated Shravan with a memento, a special meal, and his favourite treat, ice cream.
“They gave me food and ice cream. I’m very happy. I want to become a soldier and serve the country,” said Shravan, smiling. His father, Sona Singh, a farmer from Tara Wali village in Ferozepur, said, “From day one, Shravan started helping the jawans. We stood by him, and he stood by them.”
Though Operation Sindoor will be remembered for its military might, Shravan Singh’s small act of kindness will stand out, a reminder that patriotism has many forms, even in the hands of a child.
