India carried out a major military operation called Operation Sindoor in response to a deadly terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. On April 22, 2025, five terrorists killed 26 innocent civilians in the Baisaran Valley of Pahalgam. Many tourists were visiting the area to enjoy nature and life. The attack shocked the entire country and drew strong criticism from world leaders and many countries.

According to a special edition of the Indian Army’s magazine ‘Baatcheet,’ the Indian Army carried out precision strikes on nine terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied-Kashmir on May 7. The strikes were done between 1.05 am and 1.30 am. The operation was launched to deliver justice to the victims and their families.

Army Chief Gen Upendra Dwivedi was seen monitoring the operation, and the exact time and date of the strike—May 7 at 1:05 am—was mentioned in the magazine.

At 1.44 am the same day, the Indian government released an official statement. It said, “India has demonstrated considerable restraint in the selection of targets and method of execution, and that no Pakistani military facilities have been targeted.”

Story behind the logo of Operation Sindoor

The logo of Operation Sindoor became a powerful symbol across the country. It was simple but carried deep meaning. It was first shared on the Indian Army’s social media accounts shortly after the strikes. The Army posted a message: “#PahalgamTerrorAttack Justice is Served. Jai Hind!”

The poster had the words “OPERATION SINDOOR” written on it. The first 'O' in “Sindoor” was shown as a small bowl of vermilion—a red powder worn by married Hindu women. The second 'O' had a red dash of the same powder. This design was meant to show India’s cultural identity and the emotion behind the operation.

The logo was designed by two Indian Army men—Lt Col Harsh Gupta and Hav Surinder Singh. The Indian Army’s magazine featured their pictures alongside the famous logo. The magazine also showed that the logo had become very popular on platforms like X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram.

The first page of the 17-page magazine shows the logo with the Indian Army emblem above it. The next page talks about the Pahalgam attack and says, “On 22 April 2025, the nation witnessed a dastardly and brutal act of violence where five terrorists killed 26 innocent civilians in the name of religion. This incident occurred in the serene meadows of Baisaran Valley, Pahalgam, where the tourists had gone to celebrate life with fervour. This incident fortified the resolve of our country to fight terror with punitive action.”
