A proud moment for mountaineers across the globe was celebrated on Tuesday, as over 100 climbers from various countries, including 10 from India, were honoured in Nepal. The event was held to mark the anniversary of the first successful climb of Mount Everest by Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay.
Nepal’s Minister for Tourism, Culture and Civil Aviation, Badri Pandey, presented the awards to climbers who have successfully reached the summit of the world’s tallest mountain. The ceremony took place just ahead of International Everest Day, celebrated every year on May 29.
"The Nepal government is not only committed to promoting mountain tourism, but we are also concerned about the safety of the climbers and the preservation of the Himalayas for future generations," Pandey said at the event.
Among the honourees were 10 Indian climbers who received certificates of appreciation at the Everest Summiters Summit, hosted by Everest Alliance Nepal. The climbers are:

These mountaineers were recognized for their incredible courage and achievements on Mount Everest.
Along with the Indian climbers, others from Nepal, China, Australia, Bangladesh, Singapore, the Philippines, Palestine Territory, and the United Kingdom were also honoured during the event.
Minister Pandey emphasized the importance of caring for nature while celebrating these feats. "We must care and protect the mountains for the future generations to come," he added.
The event not only celebrated brave individuals but also reminded everyone of the need to preserve the majestic Himalayas. Among the attendees was Mingma Sherpa, Nepal’s first South Asian climber to summit all 14 of the world’s peaks above 8,000 metres, a true legend of the mountains.
