Bengaluru's City Civil Court has approved the bail to the wife and in-laws of Bengaluru techie Atul Subhash, the 34-year-old techie who died by suicide last month due to harassment by his wife and in-laws. Subhash's wife, Nikita Singhania, her mother, Nisha Singhania, and brother, Anurag Singhania, had approached the Bengaluru session court seeking bail in the case.
Earlier, they had appealed to the Karnataka High Court, requesting it to direct the session court to expedite the disposal of their bail petition. The High Court instructed the session court to rule on the petition on Jan 4, 2025. On December 14, Nikita Singhania was arrested in Gurugram, while her mother, Nisha, and brother, Anurag, were detained in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh.
Public Prosecutor Ponnanna said, "The wife, brother-in-law, and mother-in-law all applied for bail, and now it has been granted. We still need to review the order carefully to understand the reasons for granting bail or any conditions imposed. We argued that it was difficult to bring them in for questioning, and the investigation is still ongoing. We are not satisfied with the bail decision and will challenge it."
Advocate Vinay Singh, representing Atul Subhash, told ANI, "The bail has been granted, and we are waiting for the order sheet. Our argument was based on factual information and harassment. The suicide note and video have been sent for forensic examination, but they have not been considered yet."
"His handwriting is also being examined. We stand with the entire family in their pursuit of justice. We plan to challenge the bail order, and after reviewing the order sheet, we may approach the Karnataka High Court.”
Atul left behind a video and a 24-page note detailing his marital issues, harassment, and extortion attempts by his wife, her relatives, and an Uttar Pradesh-based judge, accusing them of driving him to suicide through false cases and persistent torture.
The parents of the techie have requested custody of their four-year-old grandson, stating they are unaware of his current whereabouts.
Pawan Kumar, Subhash's father, said, “My son was shattered inside... Despite the torture from his wife and in-laws, he never shared it with anyone. His suicide note also stated that his parents should be given custody of his child.”
