Naming a baby can be challenging for many couples, and for one family in Karnataka, it led to a major disagreement. A 26-year-old man and his 21-year-old wife couldn’t agree on a name for their son, who was born in 2021. The wife suggested naming the baby Adi, but the husband didn’t like the name. The disagreement caused a lot of tension, and the father didn’t attend the naming ceremony. After months of arguments, the woman went to court asking for a divorce and maintenance.

Court helps couple settle baby name dispute, reunites them

Even after several suggestions from the judges, the couple still couldn’t agree on a name for their child. Last week, a judge from the Mysore Sessions Court called the parents to resolve the issue. The judge helped them decide that the three-year-old boy would be named Aryaverdhan. Following this, the couple settled their dispute and agreed to live together with their child.

Not the first time

This was not the first time a couple needed legal help to choose a name for their child. Last year, the Kerala High Court decided the name of a three-year-old girl when her parents couldn’t agree. The court said the name suggested by the mother should be given importance, but the father’s name should also be included. The court emphasised that the child’s well-being should be the most important factor in making such decisions, rather than the parents' rights.
