A joyous moment turned tragic near Bengaluru’s M Chinnaswamy Stadium as at least seven people lost their lives and several others were injured in a stampede-like situation, according to reports from CNN-News18.
Thousands of excited Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) fans had gathered to celebrate the team’s historic Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 victory, their first title win in 18 years.
The large crowd gathered near the stadium in hopes of seeing the players or joining in the celebrations. However, the situation spiraled out of control as the crowd swelled, leading to chaos and a dangerous stampede-like moment.
Victims of the incident were rushed to Bowring and Lady Curzon Hospital, where they are receiving treatment.
Exit and entry gates at the Cubbon Park metro station, which is close to the stadium, were closed to manage crowd movement and ensure safety in the area.
Earlier in the day, Karnataka’s Home Minister Parameshwara Rao had clearly stated that there would be no official victory parade for the RCB men’s cricket team following their IPL win.
