Virat Kohli is set to return as the captain of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in 2025. He will replace the team's current captain, Faf du Plessis, who is 40 years old, as RCB is looking for a younger leader. The Indian Premier League (IPL) teams are currently busy selecting players for the next few years. Kohli has captained RCB before and led them to the IPL final in 2016.

This is not the first time Kohli will be leading the team; he previously served as RCB’s captain from 2013 to 2021 making him one of the longest-serving captains in IPL history. Only Dhoni and Rohit Sharma are the players who have played more matches than Virat Kohli in IPL.

During Virat Kohli's captaincy, RCB played 143 matches out of which they won 66 matches, lost 70, and had 7 matches that didn't have a clear winner (3 ties and 4 no-results). This implies that RCB won about 46% of their matches under Kohli's leadership. For every 10 matches they won, they lost about 9 matches.

Even though Virat Kohli performed extremely well in IPL matches including being the highest run scorer in 2016 having a record of 973 runs, still he couldn't win the IPL trophy that year.

Kohli led RCB to the IPL playoffs several times, including the 2016 final, where they lost to Sunrisers Hyderabad. Known for his aggressive style and exceptional batting skills. Kohli was a key player and leader for RCB. He stepped down as captain in 2021, with Faf du Plessis taking over. Since then, RCB has finished 4th, 6th, and 4th in the last three seasons.
