The Border Security Force (BSF) stopped a major infiltration attempt on May 8, when a large group of terrorists tried to enter India from Pakistan through the Samba district in Jammu and Kashmir.
BSF Deputy Inspector General (DIG) SS Mand said the group was made up of about 45 to 50 individuals.
According to DIG SS Mand, the attempt was made under the cover of heavy firing from the Pakistani side. This kind of firing is often used to distract security forces and help terrorists cross the International Border. He said that Pakistan broke the ceasefire agreement by opening fire to support the infiltration.
DIG Mand told news agency ANI, "Our brave soldiers have inflicted great losses on them. We got intelligence that a large group is trying to infiltrate. We were ready for them and we detected them on 8 May."
Once the BSF got the intelligence tip-off, they stayed on high alert. When the group started moving towards Indian territory, the BSF took quick and strong action.
“They were a group of 45-50 men... They were advancing to our location... We assessed the situation and since our scenario was war-gamed, we inflicted heavy bombardment on them,” DIG Mand explained.
The exchange of fire between both sides did not last long. DIG Mand described how the situation played out: “As expected, they retaliated with heavy fire from their posts... We opened up with heavy and accurate fire on them. That was a major factor. They were seen running away from their posts. We sorted them out in 1.5 hours."
