A 25-year-old tourist from Ahmedabad, Gujarat, lost his life after a paragliding accident in Indrunag, Himachal Pradesh, on Monday evening. The accident happened during takeoff when the paraglider failed to lift properly and crashed after covering only a short distance.
The incident took place at the Indrunag paragliding site, which is located near Dharamshala. Kangra District Additional Superintendent of Police (SP) Hitesh Lakhanpal said both the tourist, Satish Rajesh Bhai, and the pilot, Suraj, were injured in the crash.
Satish suffered serious injuries to his head, mouth, and other parts of his body. He was first taken to the Zonal Hospital in Dharamshala and later shifted to the Tanda Medical College. Sadly, he died late at night while undergoing treatment. The pilot, Suraj, is being treated at Bala Ji Hospital in Kangra.
Additional SP Lakhanpal said that Satish’s family has been informed about the incident, and his body will be given to them after the post-mortem.
This is the second fatal paragliding accident at Indrunag in the last six months. In January, 19-year-old Bhavsar Khushi, also from Ahmedabad, died after her glider crashed during takeoff. Her pilot was also injured.
Police are investigating possible safety rule violations in both cases. Due to these concerns, Kangra Deputy Commissioner Haimraj Bairwa has banned all paragliding activities in the district, including the famous Bir Billing site, until September 15 because of safety risks during the monsoon season.
