After the deadly terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu said that airlines have been strictly instructed not to increase ticket prices. He also added that facilities at Srinagar Airport have been expanded to handle the rising number of passengers.
Between 6 AM and noon on Wednesday, the airport handled 20 departures carrying 3,337 passengers. Extra arrangements have been made, including food and water distribution, and a new tent has been set up outside the terminal for waiting travellers.
"We are working hard to make sure tourists can travel safely from Srinagar," said Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu. "Airlines have been clearly told not to raise fares, and we are keeping a close watch to ensure ticket prices stay reasonable. Our efforts are ongoing to provide safe and affordable travel during this difficult time."
Following Tuesday’s terror attack in Pahalgam, there has been growing concern over the sharp rise in airfares. Tickets for flights from Srinagar to major cities like Delhi and Mumbai shot up, with some fares crossing ₹20,000. Many airline websites either showed sold-out flights or limited seats at very high prices.
In response, Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu said that extra flights have been arranged to help stranded tourists. The ministry initially added four additional flights-two each to Delhi and Mumbai. On Wednesday, three more flights to Delhi were scheduled: IndiGo 6E 3203 (5 PM–6 PM), IndiGo 6E 3103 (6 PM–7:30 PM), and a SpiceJet flight set to depart at 10:30 PM.
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) also advised airlines like Air India and IndiGo to add more flights from Srinagar and waive charges for ticket changes or cancellations. The move comes in response to a sudden spike in demand from tourists after the Pahalgam terror attack. The DGCA stressed the importance of keeping air travel from Srinagar smooth and uninterrupted. Airlines have also been asked to assist travellers facing unexpected challenges and offer all possible help during this difficult period.
The deadly terror attack which shook the nation took place around 3 PM on Tuesday killing 26 people.
