The Civil Aviation Ministry has instructed airlines not to increase ticket prices for flights to Srinagar following the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir. The Ministry also ensured that airlines will operate additional flights to help stranded travellers and provide support during this difficult time.
To help people, Air India and IndiGo will operate a total of four extra flights from Srinagar to Delhi and Mumbai on Wednesday. These airlines have also decided to waive ticket rescheduling and cancellation charges to ease the burden on passengers.
Civil Aviation Minister K. Rammohan Naidu held an urgent meeting with airline operators and issued a strict advisory against surge pricing on the Srinagar route. The airlines were told to maintain regular fare levels, ensuring that no passengers are financially burdened during this sensitive period.
Some airlines have also reduced ticket prices on their own. As of early Wednesday morning, several flights from Srinagar to Delhi were available for under ₹15,000, compared to over ₹20,000 just a day earlier. This decision comes after terrorists opened fire at a popular meadow near Pahalgam on Tuesday, killing 26 people, mostly tourists, and injuring many others.
In response to the current situation, Air India announced it will operate two extra flights from Srinagar to Delhi and Mumbai on Wednesday, April 23. IndiGo also confirmed it will operate two additional flights from Srinagar to Delhi and Mumbai on the same day. All other flights will run as per the usual schedule. The airline runs five flights daily between Srinagar and Delhi/Mumbai. Passengers can change or cancel their tickets for free until April 30 and get a full refund to their original payment method..
Meanwhile, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde spoke with Civil Aviation Minister K. Rammohan Naidu about the tragic incident in Pahalgam, where several tourists from Maharashtra lost their lives. Shinde requested Naidu to make special arrangements for the immediate transportation of the deceased's bodies from Srinagar to Mumbai.
Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu said special help will be given to quickly send the bodies of the victims to their families. This came after Maharashtra Deputy CM Eknath Shinde asked for support. IndiGo said it is helping passengers flying to and from Srinagar by waiving cancellation and rescheduling charges. It’s also adding two extra flights from Mumbai and Delhi to Srinagar, along with its usual schedule of 20 daily flights.
Air India Express also said it is fully supporting passengers due to the current situation in Pahalgam. People with bookings to or from Srinagar until April 30, 2025, can change their travel dates without any extra charges or fare difference. The airline connects Srinagar directly to five cities, Bengaluru, Delhi, Hyderabad, Jammu, and Kolkata, with around 80 flights every week.
