In Odisha’s Puri district, a minor boy and a young man were brutally beaten and tortured by a group of men who wrongly thought they belonged to a rival group. The victims were tied to an electric pole, hit with iron rods, burnt with cigarette butts, and even forced to drink urine.

The incident took place in Kotakosanga village during a village fair. According to a minor who was present with the victims, “We went to the fair. Mistaking us, they tied us to an electric pole and thrashed us.”

Victims taken to hospital with serious injuries

One of the victims suffered serious head injuries. The families of the victims were informed about the attack and rushed to rescue them. They were then taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The father of one of the victims shared his sadness and fear after the attack. He said, “There was some dispute between the two villages. Later, they took the youths and thrashed them, even forcing them to drink urine. We want the culprits to be punished.”

The attackers are believed to be from Kotakosanga and a nearby village called Pradhansahi. They mistakenly thought the two boys were from a rival group. Because of this confusion, the situation quickly turned violent, and the boys were badly beaten.

Police begin investigation

The police are taking the case seriously and have promised to take strong action. A police officer said, “Those responsible will not be spared,” which shows they will not allow such violence to happen. Some people have already been taken in for questioning.

In the first stage of the investigation, it was found that the group involved in the attack is from Kotakosanga. The police are still investigating and have said they will take strict legal action against everyone involved.
