Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has asked the makers of Vicky Kaushal’s upcoming film Chhaava to be careful and respectful while being creative. Recently, he commented on the controversies surrounding the film and urged the producers not to change history.
Fadnavis urged that the story of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj should be shown accurately. "People deeply respect Sambhaji Maharaj, and his honour should not be disrespected. Creativity is important in films, but it should be balanced with sensitivity," he said, according to India TV.
This came a day after Maharashtra Minister Uday Samant expressed his disappointment with Vicky Kaushal’s upcoming film. He objected to a scene in which Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj is shown dancing and called for it to be removed.
"If they raise objections, we will not allow the movie to be released," Samant said in a media statement, adding that the film should be shown to historians and scholars first. "The movie shows Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj dancing. The director should remove this scene. If historians and scholars object, we will stop the film's release," he warned.
The film’s director, Laxman Uttekar, later met Maharashtra Navnirman Sena leader Raj Thackeray and assured him that any scenes that were causing concerns would be removed before the movie hit theatres.
