Delhi Police have apprehended director Sanoj Mishra in relation to a rape case after the Delhi High Court rejected his bail. Mishra, who gained fame for providing viral sensation Monalisa with a role in his film during the Kumbh Mela, was arrested on March 30, 2024, after an investigation based on inputs and technical surveillance.
The arrest was made in Ghaziabad, and he was subsequently brought to Nabi Karim Police Station in Delhi. Mishra, who resides with his family in Mumbai, is currently charged with serious offenses of sexual assault and coercion.
Allegations against Mishra
A 28-year-old woman, who aspired to be a film actress, has accused Mishra of raping her repeatedly for four years. She alleged that they were living together in Mumbai, where he forced her into having three abortions.
She accused Mishra of backing out on his promise to marry her in her police statement.
The Delhi Police filed an FIR on March 6, 2024, under various sections, including rape, assault, forced abortion, and threats. The complainant also supported her claims by giving a statement under Section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC).
The authorities also obtained medical evidence from Muzaffarnagar, confirming her claims regarding the abortions.
As per the complaint, the woman claimed that Mishra, on February 18, 2025, took her to Hotel Shiva in Nabi Karim. There, he had allegedly had physical relations with her and left her. The incident made her lodge a police case.
With his bail plea rejected by the Delhi High Court, Mishra was arrested and is now in police custody as the investigation continues.
