A 36-year-old pregnant woman was thrown off a moving train after resisting a rape attempt in Tamil Nadu’s Coimbatore district on Thursday. The attack happened around 10:30 AM aboard the Coimbatore-Tirupati Intercity Express.

The victim, identified as Revathi, had boarded the trainat Tiruppur around 6:40 AM with an unreserved ticket. She initially sat in the ladies' coach, where at least seven other women were present. However, by the time the train reached Jolarpettai Railway Station at 10:15 AM, all the other female passengers had got off, leaving her alone in the compartment.

Taking advantage of the situation, the accused, 27-year-old Hemaraj, boarded the coach and sat quietly for some time. Later, he tried to rape her. When Revathi resisted and kicked him, he threw her out of the moving train by forcing her out.

Revathi received severe injuries to all her limbs and head. Railway officials and other onlookers quickly took her to the Vellore Government Hospital, where she is being treated currently. It was established that at the time of the attack, she was on her way to her mother's house.

Hemaraj was caught by the police based on the statement of the victim. His investigation showed him to be a habitual offender and a serious offender who had already been involved in a rape case earlier and several times arrested for murder and robbery.

A case has been filed against Hemaraj, and police are further investigating the incident. The authorities are also reviewing train security measures so that such crimes do not happen again in the future.
