Sonam Raghuvanshi, who is accused of murdering her husband Raja Raghuvanshi during their honeymoon in Meghalaya, has now spent a month in Shillong jail. However, sources claim she has shown no remorse for her actions and has not received any contact or visits from her family since being taken into custody.

According to jail sources, Sonam has adapted to life behind bars and follows the prison routine strictly. She wakes up on time and adheres to the jail manual. She has not spoken about her personal life or the murder to other inmates or jail staff, the sources added.

Sonam is currently lodged in a section close to the jail warden’s office, where she is sharing the space with two other undertrial women inmates. Though she hasn’t been assigned any jail work yet, officials plan to involve her in skill-based training like sewing in the coming weeks. She is allowed to watch television as part of daily recreation.

Even though jail rules allow her to meet and call family, Sonam’s family has not reached out to her. She has not received any visits or calls during her time in custody, sources confirmed.

The Shillong jail houses 496 prisoners, of which only 20 are women. Sonam is the second woman in the facility facing a murder charge. Her movements are being closely watched through CCTV surveillance.

The honeymoon murder: A chilling crime

Sonam and Raja got married on May 11 and left for their honeymoon on May 20, heading to Meghalaya with a one-way ticket. For three days, they travelled across the Northeast. But when their families couldn't reach them, a missing person complaint led police to launch an investigation.

On June 2, Raja’s body was discovered in a deep gorge, ten days after he was allegedly murdered.

A week later, on the night of June 7, Sonam was discovered unconscious at a roadside dhaba in Ghazipur and was subsequently taken to Ghazipur Medical College for medical treatment. It was there that she reportedly surrendered to the police. Her three accomplices, including her alleged lover Raj, were later arrested.

After her arrest, Sonam’s brother publicly disassociated the family from her actions. “Our family has broken all ties with her,” he said. He also stood in support of Raja’s family and pledged to help them seek justice.
