In Bengaluru’s Iggalur, police confirmed that the death of a one-month-old baby girl was an accident. At first, the mother, Harshita, reported it as a murder, and the police filed a case based on her complaint. However, after investigating carefully, they found that the baby’s death was not done on purpose.

Police reported that the baby had gone missing from her home and was later found in the water tank on the roof of the house. At first, the mother, Harshita, said she left the baby alone when she went to the washroom, and when she came back, the baby was gone. She said she looked everywhere, inside and around the house, but couldn’t find her. However, after more questioning by the Surya City police, Harshita allegedly admitted that she had hidden the baby’s body in the water tank because she was scared of her husband’s reaction.

Police found that Harshita had given the baby some medicine, which apparently made the baby froth at the mouth and then pass away. Worried about how her husband Manu would react, Harshita decided to hide the baby’s body and made up a story that the baby had disappeared.

Neighbours share details of the couple's background

During the investigation, neighbours shared details about the couple with the police. One neighbour, Studio Nagesh, said, “Manu belongs to the Dalit community, while Harshita is from the upper-caste Gowda community. Her family was strongly against their marriage. Someone familiar with the house could have done it.”

The police are now waiting for post-mortem and forensic reports to confirm the details of the mother’s confession. The investigation is still continuing. Harshita, who studied science, married Manu, a cab driver, in 2023. The couple reportedly faced social pressure because they come from different caste backgrounds.
