A shocking incident took place in Bihar's Supaul district, where a 24-year-old man was brutally beaten and forced to marry his aunt. The man, Mithlesh Kumar Mukhiya, was attacked on July 2 in Jeevchhapur, under the Bhimpur police station area.
According to the complaint filed by Mithlesh's father, Ramchandra Mukhiya, his son was kidnapped and taken to a house belonging to his uncle, Shivchandra Mukhiya. There, he was accused of having an affair with Shivchandra's wife, Rita Devi. Shivchandra and Rita have a four-year-old son.
A viral video on social media shows Mithlesh being beaten with rods. Later, Rita Devi was also brought to the spot and beaten by villagers. After this, Mithlesh was allegedly forced to apply vermillion (sindoor) on Rita’s forehead, a symbolic act of marriage in Hindu culture.
Ramchandra said that he and his wife were also attacked when they tried to stop the mob. He added, “His son sustained grievous injuries on his back, neck, and hands in the assault.”
The violence ended only after a local villager informed the police. Once the police arrived, the attackers fled the scene.
Ramchandra named several people in his complaint, including Raja Kumar, Vikas Mukhiya, Shivchandra Mukhiya, Suraj Mukhiya, Pradeep Thakur, Suresh Mukhiya (all from Jeevchhapur), and Rahul Kumar and Sajan Sahni (from Belaganj under Bhimpur police station).
Bhimpur Station House Officer (SHO) Mithlesh Pandey said, “A case has been registered, and efforts are on to trace the accused.” He also added that Mithlesh was first taken to Narpatganj Hospital and later shifted to Araria Sadar Hospital as his condition was critical.
