A woman was sexually assaulted near KR Puram railway station in Bengaluru around 1:30 am on April 2. The victim had been working in Kerala and was on her way to Bihar with her brother when the incident happened.

The brother and sister were walking toward Mahadevapura to find food when two men came near them. One of the men grabbed the woman's brother so he couldn't help, while the other man pulled the woman away to a quiet place and attacked her.

The police statement mentioned that two autorickshaw drivers sitting in an auto attacked the woman’s brother before dragging the victim a short distance away and sexually assaulting her.

Hearing her cries, local residents rushed to help and managed to catch one of the suspects. The police were informed, and Mahadevapura officers on night patrol arrested both men on the spot.

The accused have been identified as Asif and Syed Mushar, both from Mulabagilu in Karnataka’s Kolar district. The Whitefield Deputy Commissioner of Police confirmed that Asif was accused of sexual assault, while Syed Mushar allegedly restrained the victim’s brother.

A case has been registered at Mahadevapura Police Station, and further investigation is underway.

When will action be taken?

Day by day, cases of rape are increasing, yet the government seems busy with other matters. Women’s safety is a serious issue, but it is often ignored. Every day, new cases come to light, but strict action is rarely taken. How long will women continue to live in fear? Laws exist, but they are not enough if criminals are not afraid of punishment. The government must focus on this issue and take strong steps to ensure safety. Justice should be swift, and those responsible must be punished. Women's safety is not just a topic for discussion—it needs real action.
