A bizarre and painful incident took place in Auraiya district of Uttar Pradesh, where a woman suffered a jaw dislocation while eating golgappas. The woman, named Inkala Devi, had gone out with her family when the incident happened. What was supposed to be a fun outing quickly turned into a medical emergency.
What happened
According to her family, the children were hungry and insisted on eating golgappas. So the family stopped at a nearby roadside stall. Inkala Devi also decided to have a few golgappas with them. However, as soon as she opened her mouth wide to eat a particularly big golgappa, her jaw suddenly got dislocated. Her mouth remained stuck open and she was unable to close it.

Her relatives immediately panicked and tried to understand what had happened. One of the family members said, “As soon as Didi opened her mouth to eat a big golgappa, her jaw dropped and wouldn’t close. We rushed her to the hospital when her mouth stayed locked open.”
They first took Inkala Devi to a nearby medical centre. The doctors there examined her and tried to provide first aid. They also attempted to manually push the jaw back into place, but the efforts were not successful. The doctors realised that the situation required more advanced treatment, so they referred her to a larger medical hospital.
She was quickly shifted to a Medical College Hospital for specialised care. There, doctors worked on resetting her jaw properly. After some time, they were able to place the jaw back in its correct position. Her family said that although she is now able to close her mouth, she is still experiencing pain and discomfort.
Doctors explained that the jaw dislocation may have happened because of sudden and excessive mouth opening while trying to eat a large food item in one big bite. They also added that such cases, though uncommon, can occur when the jaw muscles are strained beyond their limit.
The incident has now drawn attention on social media, with many people surprised at how something as simple as eating a golgappa led to such a painful medical condition. The family hopes that Inkala Devi will recover fully in the coming days.
