Six members of a family in West Midnapore, West Bengal, were admitted to the hospital after accidentally eating food that was cooked using acid instead of water. The victims include three children and three adults. All of them fell seriously ill shortly after eating the meal.

The incident took place in the home of Santu, a silversmith from Ratneshwarbati. As part of his work, Santu keeps acid in the house because it is used for cleaning silver. The acid was stored in a container that looked similar to the ones used for drinking water. Because of this, a woman in the family mistakenly used the acid while cooking the meal on Sunday, believing it was water.

After eating lunch, the family members started feeling sick and showed worrying symptoms. They suffered from severe stomach pain, vomiting, and difficulty breathing. Realising that something was wrong, the family rushed to get help from neighbours, who then helped take the six patients to Ghatal Hospital.

Doctors at the hospital quickly discovered that the family had eaten food mixed with acid. One child was reported to be in a very critical condition when they arrived. The medical team provided emergency treatment, but the condition of the patients required more advanced medical support. Because of this, all six were transferred to a hospital in Kolkata for further treatment.

Health officials said that the mistake happened because the acid was stored in containers similar to water bottles, which caused confusion. They urged people to be very careful when keeping dangerous chemicals at home, especially if children live in the house. They also advised that such materials should be clearly labelled and stored separately from food and water.

Local authorities are expected to review safety rules to prevent similar accidents in the future. So far, no official statement has been released by the family or the hospital treating them. The incident has shocked the community, and many neighbours have expressed concern and support for the affected family.
