A woman in Uttar Pradesh’s Amroha district has died after being forced to drink acid by her in-laws over dowry demands. The woman, identified as Gul Fiza, had married Parvez, a resident of Kala Kheda village in Amroha, about a year ago. According to her father, Furqan, soon after the marriage, she began facing harassment from her husband, his parents, and other family members for dowry.
He said the harassment continued despite repeated requests from the family to stop. On August 11, the situation turned worse when Gul Fiza was allegedly forced by her in-laws to consume acid. She was immediately taken to a hospital in Moradabad, where doctors provided treatment. She remained under medical care for 17 days, but her condition did not improve. Despite continuous efforts, she died while undergoing treatment. A post-mortem examination was also carried out in Moradabad.
Earlier, based on a complaint filed by her father, the police had already registered a case against her husband, Parvez, and his family members. The charges included dowry harassment, assault, and related offences. With her death, police said that charges of murder will now be added against the accused.
Police officials confirmed that an FIR is already in place and that legal proceedings have started. They added that further action will be taken once the post-mortem report is received. Earlier this month, the dowry-related death case of 26-year-old Nikki Bhati in Greater Noida gained widespread attention.
Nikki was admitted to the hospital with severe burn injuries, initially claiming her injuries came from a gas cylinder blast, but police later found no evidence of one. Investigations point out that she may have been set on fire with a flammable liquid by her husband, Vipin Bhati, allegedly over unmet dowry demands of ₹36 lakh.
