A real-life Bunty-Babli was arrested by the police on a train near Bihar’s Bodh Gaya last week. The couple named Kumar Bir Singh and Anita Sharma from Delhi were arrested for their involvement in the theft of 38 laptops from a Nagpur trader as per the Times of India report.

The couple, who took the names 'Bunty and Babli' after the famous movie characters, are also accused of stealing 85 laptops worth ₹35 lakh from a shop in Noida

According to the police, the couple stole at least 150 laptops from various cities and sold them in Delhi's grey markets. After each successful theft, Pawan and Anita would flee to holiday destinations and lay low until their stolen money ran out, much like the main characters in the movie.

After their recent theft in Nagpur, the couple planned to carry out another heist in Puri. However, the police got wind of their plans and apprehended them. Acting on a complaint from a showroom owner, the Bajaj Nagar police initiated an investigation and recovered 12 laptops from the grey market in Delhi.

The duo allegedly sold the stolen laptops at much lower prices, between ₹10,000 and ₹15,000 each. Grey market traders would then resell them for ₹25,000 to ₹30,000.

How Pawan and Anita persuade traders:

Pawan and Anita approached laptop traders pretending to be directors of an IT company. They used their charm and clever tactics to strike deals, with Anita’s fluent English and persuasive communication helping them gain the trust of a showroom owner. As a result, the owner willingly supplied 38 laptops to be set up as workstations in a rented hall near Laxmi Nagar, as reported by TOI.

The next day, the couple vanished, taking the laptops and disconnecting their phones. However, thanks to advanced cell phone tracking technology, the police were able to locate them on a train in Bihar. Anita and Pawan were arrested on November 16. They were subsequently placed in police remand until November 23.
