Is Bengaluru’s rent crisis becoming a joke? Bengaluru, India’s Silicon Valley, is now making headlines not just for its tech industry but also for its rapidly increasing rental prices. A recent viral video has left the internet shocked, showing just how small and expensive flats in the city have become.
A man posted a video showing his small one-bedroom flat, which costs ₹25,000 per month. The high rent for such a tiny space has surprised many people online. Some found it funny, while others were frustrated by how expensive renting has become.
In the viral video, the tenant stands in the middle of his room and easily touches both walls just by stretching his arms. To show how small the space is, he lies down on the floor and can reach the opposite wall with his feet and hand.
Next, he shows the balcony, but it is also very small. It is so narrow that only one person can stand there comfortably.
Adding humour to the situation, the tenant jokes, “Bhut fayde hai itne chote room ka—saman nahi le paaoge toh paisa bachega, kyunki loge toh rakhoge kaha?” (The benefit of such a small room is that you won’t buy things, saving money since there’s nowhere to store them).
How did people react?
The video quickly went viral, gathering thousands of views and comments. Many people were shocked and compared the flat’s size to their bathrooms.
One user wrote, “Ye toh shuru hote hi khatam ho gaya.”
Another joked, “Minimalist lifestyle.”
A comment read, “Bhai, iss se bada to mera bathroom hai.”
One user sarcastically said, “Actually, it’s paradise for a true bachelor.”
Others compared Bengaluru’s rental market to Mumbai’s, where small flats with high rents are common. One person commented, “Come to Mumbai. Wo bhi same hai …thode dino baad Pune Aisa hi jayega …and population aise hi badhti rahi toh saare cities same ho jayegi.”
Some users found humour in the situation, pointing out the "advantages" of such a small flat. One person joked, “Rishtedar bhi nahi aate… maid ka kharcha… cooking gas ka bhi bachega.”
Another added, “This is not a flat, but a single sharing PG with food, electricity, filtered water, Wi-Fi, a washing machine, and daily cleaning.”
However, some viewers were genuinely concerned about the lack of space. One person asked, “Bathroom kitchen kahan hai ismein?”
Not the first time
This is not the first time a tiny but expensive apartment has gone viral. In 2024, a video from Mumbai also gained attention. It showed a 1BHK flat in Matunga that cost ₹45,000 per month. The space was so small that a washing machine was placed above the toilet, there was a loft for storage, and there was barely any room to move.
Bengaluru’s high rent problem is getting worse, and this video is just another example of how extreme things have become. Some people find it funny, but others are worried about how much worse it could get. How small will homes become before something changes?
