The US has firmly responded to a Pakistani journalist who accused Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi of not supporting peace talks between India and Pakistan.
The reporter said Pakistan welcomed US efforts and believedPresident Donald Trump could even win a Nobel Peace Prize if he managed to bring peace over the Kashmir issue. He also mentioned that Modi was once not allowed to enter the US about 10 years ago.
When the reporter asked if the US was disappointed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi didn’t support the "peace deal," US State Department official Thomas Pigott clarified that their main focus was on the ceasefire.
"We are happy to see the ceasefire. That’s where our focus remains. We want it to continue and also encourage direct communication between both sides. That’s our main concern. The President has already spoken about this,” Pigott said during a press briefing.
US on Trump’s Nobel Peace Prize chances
When asked about Pakistan’s belief that Donald Trump could win a Nobel Peace Prize for helping resolve the long-standing conflict between India and Pakistan, US official Thomas Pigott called Trump "a peacemaker." “He’s a peacemaker. He values peace. He’s also a dealmaker, and he has shown that repeatedly, whether it’s through his America First approach or his efforts to end global conflicts,” Pigott said.
The Pakistani journalist then questioned if Trump opposed India’s use of Israeli-made drones during Operation Sindoor. He pointed out that “the drones India used against Pakistan were made in Israel,” and mentioned Trump’s Abraham Accords initiative, which aimed to bring Jews, Muslims, and Christians together. He asked whether such drone use could worsen ties between Pakistan and Israel.
Pigott, however, did not respond directly to the question about the drones. He repeated that the US focus remains on maintaining the ceasefire and encouraging direct talks between India and Pakistan.“The President is a dealmaker, he’s a peacemaker, but there’s nothing further to comment on that,” Pigott added.
