Pakistan’s Army Chief, Field Marshal Asim Munir, is set to have a private lunch with US President Donald Trump on Wednesday at the White House. The lunch will take place in the Cabinet Room at 1 PM (Washington time), and no media will be allowed. According to the official schedule, it will be a closed-door meeting.

During his visit to the US, Asim Munir is also expected to meet US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth, as per reports. Munir arrived in Washington on Sunday for a five-day official visit aimed at strengthening ties with the United States. According to Dawn, the trip is mainly a bilateral visit and is not connected to the US Army’s 250th anniversary on June 14. Earlier reports were suggesting Munir would attend the US Army Day parade, but a White House official dismissed them, saying, “This is false. No foreign military leaders were invited.”

Protests by Pakistani-Americans

Munir’s visit has faced backlash from supporters of former Prime Minister Imran Khan. Protesters gathered outside the Four Seasons Hotel in Washington, where Munir was staying, chanting slogans and calling him “the Butcher of Pakistanis.” The protest briefly turned the luxury hotel into a scene of unrest. Analysts called the incident “a major embarrassment” for the Pakistan Army and a sign of its “declining public image.”

Munir’s visit comes shortly after military tensions between India and Pakistan in May. President Trump claimed that his trade policies helped bring peace between the two nations. However, this statement lacks clear evidence and has been rejected by India.

India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar recently blamed Pakistan for a deadly terror attack in Pahalgam, where 26 people were killed by Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists based on their religion. Jaishankar linked the attack to what he called Army Chief Munir’s “extreme religious outlook,” saying, “There is some connection between the views that were expressed and the manner the attack was carried out.”
