US President Donald Trump said on Monday that the United States will send more weapons to Ukraine, just days after a temporary halt in arms shipments raised concerns in Kyiv.

Speaking to reporters at the White House, Trump said, “We’re going to have to send more weapons, defensive weapons primarily.”

Ukraine is now under intense pressure, facing one of the largest waves of missile and drone strikes from Russia since the war began in 2022.

“They’re getting hit very, very hard,” the president added. He also said he is “not happy” with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Since taking office in January this year, Trump has not approved any new military aid packages for Ukraine. This is in contrast to former president Joe Biden, under whose administration the US committed over $65 billion in military support for Kyiv.

Trump has long been skeptical about sending large-scale aid to Ukraine. However, his latest comments suggest that the US may resume sending weapons, especially for defense purposes.

Last week, the White House had paused some weapons shipments to Ukraine, which caused concern about Kyiv's ability to defend itself. The country is already struggling with a shortage of munitions while trying to hold off Russian attacks.

The ongoing war, now in its third year, shows no clear signs of ending as President Putin continues his military campaign against Ukraine.
